The historic Landmark Center was built in 1902 and originally served as the Federal Court House and Post Office for the Upper Midwest. Today, Landmark Center serves as a cultural center for music, dance, theater, exhibitions, public forums, and many special events. Many of them are FREE and geared for families. It is also the home to several museums.
Urban Expedition:
Get your “passport” and travel to Landmark Center’s increasingly popular globe-trotting tour for children and adults of all ages. This year’s countries will include Russia (1/20), Ethiopia (2/3), Guatemala (3/2), Great Britain (4/13) and Thailand (4/27). Enjoy music, food, crafts, stories and goods from each featured culture. TRACES Center for History and Culture
This ongoing permanent exhibition houses stories, art, photographs and other documentation of Midwesterners’ encounters with Germans or Austrians during World War II. Suggested donation of $1-$5. www.traces.org
The Schubert Club
The Schubert Club has two gallery spaces in Landmark Center - the renowned Museum of Musical Instruments featuring historic instruments from bygone musical eras and the Gilman Ordway Manuscript Collection which houses an impressive array of correspondence and writings from notable musicians. Exhibit: Uncle Sam Worked Here
This interactive interpretive exhibit gives visitors a glimpse into federal courts, wartime activities, prohibition, Immigration and more that occurred in Landmark Center over the past 105 years. Open during regular building hours.
