Recipe for Turkey Slop
These pulled turkey sandwiches are a nice alternative to traditional BBQ sandwiches or sloppy joes. They are great for a crowd, as they can be served from a crock pot. While the ingredients may sound bland, they are really quite tasty. Serve with buns, chips, pickles, coleslaw and other picnic fare ( we like them with banana pepper slices and a little hot sauce). These tasty morsels are very economical around Thanksgiving when turkeys are on sale!
Ingredients:
One 14 pound turkey OR 1 bone-in, whole turkey breast, thawed
Pepper
Poultry Seasoning
Garlic Powder
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can cream of celery soup
Buns for serving
If using a thawed, 14 pound turkey:
If using a 14 pound whole turkey, season the turkey with poultry seasoning, pepper and garlic powder. Roast turkey in the oven according to weight until extremely tender. Remove turkey from oven and let cool slightly. Strain juices from pan and reserve. Remove skin and bones from turkey and shred meat into a crock pot. Add one can of cream of chicken soup and one can of cream of celery soup. Add reserved juices until desired consistency. Heat meat and juices in crock pot until well heated. Season with salt and pepper. Serve meat with buns.
If using a thawed, turkey breast:
Season the turkey breast with poultry seasoning, pepper and garlic powder. Cook the turkey in the crock pot on high for 6-8 hours until extremely tender. Remove turkey from crock and let cool slightly. Strain juices from crock pot and reserve. Remove skin and bones from turkey and shred meat back into the crock pot. Add only one can of cream of celery soup. Add reserved juices until desired consistency. Heat meat and juices in crock pot until well heated. Season with salt and pepper. Serve meat with buns.
