Saint Paul Public Library System
The St. Paul library system is really a treasure. Every site offers story times and free children’s programs throughout the year. In the summer, special programs encourage children to read books to earn free books , as well as weekly free entertainment at almost every site. Check the website for current offerings and special family events. I’ve highlighted a few of our favorites:
The Highland Park Library has a wonderful collection of board books that are perfect for small kids. Story times as follows:
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. - Musical preschool story times for all ages
Tuesdays at 4:00 p.m. - Lap sit story time, songs and finger plays for ages 0-18 months.
The St. Anthony Park Library gets my award for the most beautiful children’s wing. Story time is every Friday at 10:30 a.m
The Central Library:
Jammie storytime on Mondays at 6:30pm for preschoolers and school-aged children.
Traditional story times are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m
Saturday LIVE and Central Library!
The library hosts live entertainment and programs for kids every Saturday at 11:15am (to view the schedule, check the website).
Paw Pals at the Central Library

Paw Pals is an opportunity for children to read with dog and human teams trained to share books with children in a relaxed, fun environment. This is designed for kids ages 6-12 and occurs on the second Sunday of the month from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Registration for a 20 minute block of reading time is required by calling 651-266-7034. Paw Pals is also available at some additional locations. Check the website for availability.
Family Fun and Storytime at Central Library
Most Sundays at 2pm. Check the web for specifics.
Rondo Community Outreach Library
This branch offers story times many days of the week and has many books in foreign languages. Underground, free indoor parking is a plus!
Preschool Storytime on Tuesdays at 10:30am
Baby and Toddler Storytime on Wednesdays at 6pm
Jammie Storytime on Thursdays at 7 pm
Friday Fun with Stories at 11 am
The Museum Adventure Pass
This FREE pass can be checked out at your local library and will admit 2- 4 people or children to the participating museum of your choice for FREE! There are NEW museums for the 2007-2008 year. Here are the details:
Passes are available on a first come, first serve basis and can not be reserved. If available, the pass can be checked out up to 2 times per month and is valid for one week. When you check out the pass, you will need to let the librarian know which museum you plan to attend. He/she will print you out your free entrance pass.
Passes are good for general admission and may not include special events. You are eligible for many special deals with your pass, such as 2 for 1 meal deals, free ride tickets at Como Zoo, etc, so check out the website for complete details.
Participating museums that admit 4 include: the American Swedish Institute, the Bell Museum of Natural History, Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, Gibbs Historic Murphy’s Landing (Three Rivers Park District), Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Minnesota Museum of American Art, The Museum of Russian Art and the Weisman Art Museum.
Participating museums that admit 2 include: The Bakken Museum, The Hennepin History Museum, Minnesota Landscape Arboretum,The Minnesota History Center, The Minnesota Zoo,Historic Fort Snelling, Walker Art Center, Firefighters Hall and Museum, Minnesota Transportation Museum, Twin City Model Railroad Museum, TRACES Museum, and The Works: A Technology Discovery Center.
Rosetta Stone Language Learning Program
You and your child can learn a second language for FREE! Rosetta Stone online software allows anyone with a Saint Paul Public library card and internet access the opportunity to learn Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish for FREE! The interactive experience teaches you at your own pace and an unlimited number of people can access the program at the same time. This program would be appropriate for children and adults who are able to navigate a computer…around 8 years of age. A great resource to reinforce skills being taught at school!
